Kirklees Catering Service holds the prestigious Food for Life Silver Catering Mark for providing healthy school meals using sustainably-sourced and traceable ingredients.
The award provides parents of children who take school dinners with a guarantee that their children are eating meals which are freshly prepared and healthy, made with seasonal, local and organic ingredients including Farm Assured Meat, Free Range Eggs and MSC Fish.
The silver award provides an independent endorsement that the food served by Kirklees Catering Service in schools meets high standards of traceability, freshness and provenance. Serving fresh food using sustainably sourced ingredients can help support health and wellbeing of children, as well as helping to increase concentration levels and classroom attainment. All food served is also free from undesirable additives and preservatives.
Kirklees Catering Service has also supported three schools in their Gold Food For Life Award.
From Schools to Early Years, Care Settings and Hospitals
This approach to developing a good food culture is being developed in a number of other settings in Kirklees, including Early Years, Care Settings and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. The work is supported by the framework of standards provided by the Catering Mark, which help improve food on the plate and reward caterers for making healthy eating easier, whilst using local, seasonal, organic and high animal welfare ingredients.
