Growing works is a registered charity working to ‘Nurture Healthy Lives Outdoors’. We work with families and individuals with various needs and support them to make positive changes in their lives through connecting with their environment.
We deliver outdoor activity sessions for families with children with additional needs, horticultural training sessions, workshops, therapeutic horticulture, landscaping, and horticultural services.
Our aims are:
- To promote good health in communities by providing inclusive and creative opportunities for physical activity.
- To aid mental wellbeing though the provision of outdoor therapeutic activity for:
Families with complex needs
People in isolated and vulnerable circumstances
People with mental health issues
- To provide education on the natural environment and the seasons through gardening and outdoor activities, particularly focusing on engaging young people and children.
Our activities include:
SPROUT: Outdoor activities for all members of families with children who have additional needs.
YOUNG MENTORS: Outdoor activities and life skills training for young people (age13+).
POD: A mobile unit delivering ‘Grow Your Own’ workshops and training for a variety of groups and events throughout Kirklees.
BUD: Social and Therapeutic horticulture sessions to support health and well-being.
ROOT: Landscaping and horticultural services focused on creating accessible and inclusive environments
